Des Moines

What do you get when you combine Puget Sound waterfront, scenic vistas of Mount Rainier and the Olympic Peninsula, beaches, parks, fishing piers, small-town shopping, and the mild Northwest Climate? You get Des Moines, Washington!  This growing community has something for everyone, whether it’s the summer farmers’ market, outdoor sculpture exhibits, or just staying fit and active. If you are the nautical type, or even if you just like the coastal town feeling, Des Moines is definitely on your “must see” list. The Waterland Festival is one of the city’s the many claims-to-fame, and has been going on for nearly 60 years! On a not-so-sunny day, you can dive under the waves of the Pacific without getting we at the MaST Aquarium. (Although you can dip your fingers in a touch tank, if you want.) If you’re still on the fence about moving to the area, a single stroll in Saltwater State Park or a sumptuous seafood dinner at Salty’s is sure to convince you. Let me give you the local’s perspective.
